Drilling on steep terrain

The core sample reveals what a drilling method must achieve in a variable stratigraphic sequence: fine-grained material must not be washed out, stratigraphic boundaries must remain identifiable, and the transition from cohesive to coarse-grained horizons must not be obscured. STUBORE® adjusted the energy input meter by meter to the material encountered. The cores revealed the stratigraphic sequence exactly as it exists in the subsurface: without material loss, without displacement, and accurately assignable to depth.

The logistical challenge lay in the terrain itself. The drilling sites were accessible only via narrow paths, and any disturbance to the tree population was out of the question. The TL18geo reached both sites without any terrain modifications; at a particularly exposed point, it was secured with a winch while being driven up the slope.
